Should the Indigenous Americans have their own state, country, council or self governance?

I'm a European and always found it strange that the Natives don't, seem, to get enough voices within the USA.

Can any Americans explain this to me in further detail?

No shit posting please.

It doesn't matter. Whether the natives are given partial autonomy or not, it does not matter which way the vote goes because the end result will be total destruction and removal of all autonomy. If the natives gather too much strength from their territory, there could be all out nuclear war and then no one would have autonomy

If they were a state they would have to be independent because they wouldn't want to be ruled by govt but USA would never do that I'm not sure if unincorporated territories can break away but states certainly can't since civil war

They make up like 1% of the population and are spread over large swathes of land, how would you make a native state or autonomous region, force them all to move, and force the locals of the place in question to move out? Besides that's not how America treats its minorities, they are all expected to melt into the boiling pot.

To begin with "native Americans" are not an ethnicity, they are made up of countless tribes, many of which are completely unrelated to each other. Make a country out of them and it'll look like your average African nation in that it has no sense of identity.

Or, more likely, it'll just look like America 2.0, because all its natives are already integrated.

This debate would have more merit in a Latin American country with high proportions of natives, such as Bolivia or Mexico, since there are actually millions of natives to make a state out of.

In the U.S., Indian reservations are legally sovereign nations. In a nutshell, they have about the same rights as any other State. They make their own laws, have their own police, their own legislatures, etc. They are still subject to U.S. Federal laws, but not to state/local laws wherever they may be geographically located. That's why Indian tribes are able to operate casinos in states where gambling is otherwise illegal.

Native Americans even get to vote in national elections, so they technically have as much of a voice as any other American. (not that that necessarily means very much....)

For more info here's a link to the Navajo Nation wikipedia page... they are probably the largest tribe in the U.S., although there are hundreds of others, big and small:
