Why should map-maker bans be enforced in private games?

To coerce you into pretending to be better than you really are in your messages and game style.
Damn...
But to take the map-makers perspective (and i may be playing devil's advocate, or maybe not) no one wants abusive people freely playing with their creations.

By that logic we should let map-makers ban anyone they want.
Nobody wants someone they don't like playing with their creations.

Don't go throwing logic into the discussion... =p
But it's true, if the map-makers want to get together and create an AW clone, they can do so and create their own little private world, and not let anyone they don't want join their world. But if they are going to use the creations of the AW developers (including the map-making tools), then they have to so according the community standards those developers promote.

I don't think Ivan and Amok see the need for bans in private games.

Then people would know that the game was hosted by a troll and join on their own risk.
The reason banlist was implemented was not to punish trolls (mainly), but to protect people from trolling.
If people can see that the host and potentially the people who joined are trolls, then they can join at their own risk or host their own.

Well, do YOU think that bans should be disabled for private games?
I haven't spent or invested hours into map-making. For that reason, i'd prefer to hear from some hard-core map-makers, but i don't see anything wrong with map-makers banning a player from their maps if that player makes no effort to reconcile or make amends for the actions that got him banned in the first place.
So, imo:
I think once a player does make amends, he shouldn't be banned indefinitely, and allowing private games might be an intermediary step in completely de-banning a player from a given map-makers ban list.

True, which means that trolls can successfully play games, under the pre text for having the game on private is to keep out some unwanted players

Also if Players can host/join a private game of a map they got banned from what is the point of banning anyway. Banning would be USELESS and a broken feature.
