Rome

This or England/The British Empire. Though, it wasn't the most influential nation during its first few centuries of existence, once it began colonizing in the 16th century or so, its became the powerhouse of the world and was a leading player in globalization and shaped the culture of many modern countries that formed when they broke away from the empire.

I think that the most important nation was USA, because it actually created globalization and gave for all the people of the world shared history

trading routes don't count, even rome had trade routes to china

usa created safe shipping around the world that insure globalization, devolped north america, was the first nation that actually influenced everywhere in the world, it prevented the world to turn into chaos in the world wars, in the usa most of the techlonogies that help us to communicate were devolped in the first place, nowdays we are more connected than ever, we are being part of the same stories, same history and it's not obvious.

USA has the main cause for this modernization and globalization

ah and sorry tito, russia is awesome too

Greece of course. They invented mathematics, science, philosophy, logic, astronomy, cosmology, chemistry, physics, art, advanced military. They created civilization.

Why your answers are wrong:

- Rome didn't invent anything, they used Greek inventions and conquered whole known world (like Greeks couldn't do it, but why would anyone be invader when that's evil)

- England same as Rome, invaders, occupied 3/4 of the world, had slavery, oppression, feudalism, corporatism, no human rights (although bill of rights created, the irony)

- America invade too much like its predecessors fellow invaders(Rome, England), it doesn't take credit for innovation and inventions because foreigners/immigrants are doing it, not native americans

-greek (for inventing western culture and protecting it from uncivilised east)

- roman ( for protecting, enriching, expanding and preserving western culture)

- england ( for all the same things roman did, plus tons of other stuff including being mom to usa and shooting us to industrial revolution)

- usa ( for holding the keys of our planet. can make or break us. we will see which of the two will happen)

I cast my vote for the British Empire. Modern life as we know it was created in the 1870-1920 period, and Britain was clearly the world leader and role model during that time.

Civilization itself was of course created far longer ago, but civilization is not necessarily modern life as we know it.

EDIT: I am amused by people thinking that the U.S. is most important, because globalization. The peak of globalization was 1914, well before the U.S. prominence in the world stage. Never before or since did man and capital flow so freely between nations.

Mathematics was invented in Babylon thousands of years before the Greeks... some more things existed already as well... you forgot democracy tho.

but nevermind all this... seems OP made a wide question so anyone can think of their own factor of judging the answer

it affects our life more than other things and replaced everything else, instead of diffrent history to every other region in the world we are all having one history (ofcourse there is still macro and micro now it all connects).

industrial revolution ai'nt really a factor compared to what usa assured to the world, effectiveness at production was only matter of time, thanks to the usa bigger devolpments and researches are made and way way biggger scales, usa assured the devolpment of the human race and it's not obvious.

Well obviously USA is importand. Most important? I think not personally. What is debatable is if everything attributed to United states is actually a result of Americans or simply of having the means by being the only superpower in the modern world.

Globalization is not an American product. If anything, it is a British one. The United Kingdom was the first country whose power was respected by everyone and whose influence reached everywhere. The British Royal Navy is the biggest contributor to a one world diplomacy.

Also, the industrial revolution was not important? What fantasy world do you live in? Democracy and popular politics, globalization, decline of aristocracies, international humanitarianism, and the dominance of European culture are all direct products of the artificial prosperity enabled by industrialization. It is possibly the single most important event in human history since the agrarian revolution nine thousand years ago.
