Ive come up with something pretty neat that can add additional strategy to the game. I think defense lines should have a bit more about them (strength, defense resilience...) Anyhow, here's a few upgrades that can be added to strengthen a players defense line Upgrade 1 = Defense line: Loose Formation +1 defense to bombers and aerial attacks (stealth planes) Upgrade 2 = Defense line: Tight formation +1 defense to ground units (marines, tanks, infantry) Upgrade 3 = Complete Defense line For this upgrade it would be cool if the units can all connect instead of having an uncomplete defense line with an opening. Ex: a square, a triangle or a circle. In addition, a player shouldn't be able to use all of these upgrades at once because lower rank players would struggle more. Instead, the player should only be able to use 1 of the 3 defense line strategies. A simple click on the defense line/wall and a menu should pop up. From there the player can choose a defense that best suits the upcoming attacks. Ex: if a 20 unit bomber stack is heading for his capital city, loose formation would be wisest. Anyhow, i think this would add more tactical strategy to the game. What do u think?

I like, but maybe you should have to choose which tactic you wanna use, too avoid unfairness. Maybe a tactics menu alongside strategy?

Top Hats, I think you miss the point of defence lines. They are not here to be impenetrable. They are here to provide choke-points, to defend cities against stealth, or to pin your enemy down inside his own city.

Then why not give them more meaning? give them more than one purpose, spice the game up a little.

They're already really meaningful in themselves. anymore would be gamebreaking, I feel

Yes, that what i said. Maybe having a menu to choose from either of the three strategies if u have them. thanks

Upgrades 1 and 3 seem useless to me, as air units can't form lines, and I don't think anyone's going to be putting air units in their already formed lines. There's no point in having the units connect, other than aesthetics. The second one seems ok, but would need to cost a lot or something. Another possibility for an upgrade could be longer defense lines, as in longer distances for individual lines, so the units could be farther apart.

Damn, i meant +1 defense AGAINST bombers and stealth planes and not an actual bomber defense line. Ex: if the line is made with infantry they have +1 defense bonus against aerial units if its using loose formation

For complete def lines, maybe adding a button in the moving info where you click, and then click the target unit to create full defense lines with no gaps. Hoping this gets implemented too (:

I fail to see the point in this, if i send 1 bomber on a defense line, it'll die and destroy the line. So why does it matter if your bomber kills 1 or 2 of the defense line units, when even if he doesn't kill them the line falls apart. Ending result is the same. Now if they were to make the defense line harder to kill, for example: "On the picture you can see defense line with 30 units, if you attack those units they fight in like every normal battle, now if you manage to kill 28 of them and your army dies in the process, you break the wall, because you can't have defense line around the city with 2 units." Here the above suggested upgrades would make a difference. hmm?

I say no-no, I think the 3rd upgrade makes no sense at all. Whats actually the point of it? And wall with bombers will fuck up game a little bit, and flowering will be impossible to code So no

No, this will make games really unbalanced. 3-man defence lines above all are too popular to ruin like this. Also what Ironail said, though they're not just for defending cities. They can be very useful in Africa games for instance where you have to travel over enormous distances without air transports (most of the time). Building country-wide walls is not a bad move at all in many such cases. Something else that might be a good idea though could be upgrading defence lines in-game, that is, being able to strengthen them by spending some money. It's a wild idea but I think it would be much better than what you're proposing.
